Yes, that is an 88-foot tall replica of a TaylorMade R11 driver, and it is attached to the right field foul pole at Petco Park in San Diego. It is an optical illusion, there isn't a club head on it. That part is painted on the outfield wall. However, the driver itself is considered fair territory and is not an automatic home-run, so that could have some crazy bounces if someone hits it.

If a golfer -- say, Dustin Johnson, who swings a smaller R11 -- were to use this properly, he'd have to be 120 feet tall. And if said monstrous golfer took a professional-level swing with this "club," he could drive it more than 2 1/2 miles, TaylorMade engineers estimate.

That should be interesting, especially in a close-game situation, who knows it could save a pitcher a homerun or two.

My question is why? It's baseball, why is there a stinking golf club out there?

If I hit a ball and it bounced off that I would be outraged!

When a player hit's the foul pole it's still considered a home run... so why don't they implement the same ruling for this?

Yeah, I agree. Guess golf is bigger in South Cal, then I thought.

I guess I don't really understand the point of this. It's not like San Diego is some major golf city that holds the PGA tour or whatnot. What's next, a stadium with a "hockey stick" attached to a foul pole? Seems kinda silly to me.
