History will mean that this is likely to remain a mystery but newly released documents, int he form of the deposition of Eddie Cicotte, CWS cheater from 1919, says yes!

Interesting, what do you all think?

Sounds like 1 maybe 2 were in on it if true.

For the time frame, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a WS fix in 1918 but it is way to late in time to be digging up this grave. I guess the current season doesn't have enough controversy going for some writers.

while definitely thought provoking I don't see it as much more than speculation. The whole article is based on assumptions really. I don't know lol. should make for some good conversation hopefully

I can see this being the case more than the Cubs throwing the WS. I mean if a Chicago Black Sox player said it it has to true right?

Well it's definitely unsubstantiated assumptions. However, the era was rife with corruption. It could be true, we'll never know but hey....what if?

As you said above, there is a lot of 'what if' in that era. I just hate the idea of some writers, trying to tarnish the game I like, by going back that far in time, based on speculation and hearsay from 93 years ago.

As opposed to writers and players tarnishing the game by going back 10 years or so and speculating about steroids.

It makes sense, both being in Chicago, but there is so little information given by Cicotte so it's pretty hard to tell.

Although the incentives were there for the Cubs to do it, and it doesn't take much to throw a game, like the article said. It could have just been one or two guys.

I suppose anything is possible anymore. There are some certainties of the era...."Big Bill" Thompson was mayor, Big Jim Colosimo and Johnny Torio ran all the rackets....so crime was amok in the windy city....and Thompson took all kinds of bribes along with his police force to turn a blind eye to all the illegal activities on going. Just a thought.-BH

Cubs are.... the Cubs... doomed forever to never amount to anything. The next stop on the treacherous route....THE TWILIGHT ZONE!
