I listen to mostly Rock/Alternative. The Killers is my all-time favorite band. I love 80's music so much! I feel like I was born in the wrong decade, and I absolutely LOVE techno/trance/dance music... there's something about it that calms me down

I listen to many different kinds of music, including classic rock, alternative, grunge, metal, punk, pop, rap and all combinations of the previously listed. If it's good, I'll listen.
As far as country goes, I love me some Johnny Cash, but that's about it.
Mostly I'm a huge Blues/Blues Rock fan. From the greats like Clapton, Johnson, King, Waters to lesser-known artists.
I enjoy listening to oldies, soft rock and country. I am more of an easy listening kind of person. Im not really a big fan of rap.

I have a very broad taste. Hard rock, symphonic rock (especially the old Genesis and Marillion), classic rock but also jazz and classical music. Music from the eighties (Level 42 and Depeche Mode).
I have an allergy for country and western, but somehow I can appreciate some songs by Big & Rich.
I also like 30 seconds to Mars and Porcupine Tree.

I'm pretty sure I will be posting in this thread as much as almost any other on the forum, at least until baseball starts, as music plays a huge role in my life and my leisure time, I actually think I go to more rock shows in NYC than I go to Mets games! I see Diehardbrewgirl posted a Tom Petty video, so I'm going to do the same as I love Tom Petty as much as any singer, been listening to this song a lot lately as my 'random play' setting on my iPod keeps bringing it up

As for the Secret Sisters that Cathy posted, this has to be the first time i've ever heard any of their music. To be honest, after hearing a few of their songs, their music seems a bit too old fashioned for me. Not exactly the taste in music that I am use to.

"Bloodbuzz Ohio" -The National
We are on the same wavelength music-wise. The National is playing Coachella this year, the best indie rock fest in the U.S. I went last year and it was a blast. Not sure we're going back this year; I'm a little underwhelmed by the headliners-- Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Kanye West, for Pete's sake. But some of the sub-headliners are great - Broken Social Scene, Robyn, Tame Impala, Chemical Brothers, Black Keys, Interpol, Wire. Tough to beat last year's lineup, however.

I was really excited to go to Coachella this year until I saw the lineup. Quite a letdown. I wish you could pay for individual days instead of the whole weekend. $200+ is not worth it for only a few bands I want to see. I really want to see Brandon Flowers live because I'm obsessed with the Killers. Duran Duran would be fun to see too, but other than the ones you mentioned there really arent too many that stood out to me. Maybe the less than stellar lineup is so that I'll save my money? Haha. Hopefully next year's lineup is better!

BTW, Mick....I still remember my last job before retiring . I worked with a young girl(this was around 98-99) who loved Eric Clapton's sweet little ballad of "Layla". I told her I'd bring the CD in for her the next day...which I did with the rock version from 25 years earlier. It flipped her out. She'd never heard the original version....and I've run into many who haven't. Thanks for the memories, Buddy.-BH

I think you have that mixed up with the Buddy Holly crash. Jennings gave up a seat on THAT plane and Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson and the pilot perished. I read that after Jennings gave up his seat on the plane, Holly jokingly told Jennings, "I hope your ol' bus freezes up!" Jennings shot back, "Well, I hope your ol' plane crashes!" It was a statement that would haunt Jennings for decades.

Yeah, you're right Mickey.
I found out about this while looking upp some info about the two different plane crashes.
After performing at a charity concert in Kansas City, Kansas on March 3, 1963, Walker received an urgent phone call to return to Nashville. Fellow performer Hawkshaw Hawkins gave Walker his commercial airline ticket and instead flew back to Tennessee on March 5 on a private plane, which crashed, killing Hawkins, Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and pilot Randy Hughes.[2]
Bad quirky luck for Hawkshaw Hawkins.

We are much alike. I have a very broad music taste. But when it comes to hip hop, I prefer the old groups/rappers like Public Enemy, LL Cool J. One of the few things that I really don't like is R&B; when you have heard one song, you have heard them all (just my two cents). I like classic rock, hard rock, jazz, classical music, symphonic rock (the old Genesis with Peter Gabriel), progressive rock, New Age (especially Andreas Vollenweider) and so on.

I am not sure if I posted in here or not before.
I love all types of music. The music that keeps my attention though is heavy metal.
I am 35 almost 36 and it seems that the older I get the havier the music I like. I grew up listening to nothing but KISS and I still listen to them just not to the extent I used to.
I am actually going to a heavy metal show tonight. The band is called "Times of Grace". The singer is the former frontman for Killswitch Engage and the lead guitarist is the current lead guitarist and founding members of Killswitch Engage. Killswitch is on a little break and all members have branched off to do side projects.
I saw them in March and am looking real forward to the show tonight.
If you like heavier music I say give them a listen.

Yep, I'm the same, as you, the only music I can't get into is real heavy metal, I've tried but its just not me. I listen to alot of oldschool everything from rock, pop, hip hop, country. I also listen to alot of Reggae, Reggaetone, Salsa, Plena, Bomba cause I'm Puerto Rican.

May do my own music thread at some point like the one Rexington has here as I really like music and rocking it out, mostly heavy stuff but also anything from Beyonce and rap and hip hop to older 60's stuff is good, get to see a lot of people if I have the money for tickets as just about everyone comes to LA when they tour, me and my wife are the only people we know who got tickets to see Coldplay when they do two shows at the Hollywood Bowl in May as both gigs sold out in about 20 minutes, but I know a guy who works at the Bowl and he came through for us, which is pretty awesome, I thought about selling them on EBay for like $1000 each but she'd have killed me, anyway

I'd say I lean more towards country and christian music, but I enjoy some Hipp Hop and Rap while I'm working out. Let's face it, George Strait isn't the best option for getting pumped up for a heavy lift.
My favorites from each genre...
Lifehouse - You and Me (I don't know how you'd classify this)
Miranda Lambert - Heart Like Mine (Country)
Courageous - Casting Crowns (Christian)
Kevin Rudolf - I Made It (Hipp Hop)
Pourin' It On - Dux Jones (Rap)
Beck - Loser (Rock)
City High - What Would You Do (R&B)
I always start every workout with Courageous tho..I'd have to say that's my favorite song.

Curtis was born Curtis Wain Gates and reared in Las Animas, the seat of Bent County, west of the larger community of Lamar in southeastern Colorado. His father, Dan Gates, was the sheriff.[1] The family lived above the jail and his mother, Nellie Sneed Gates, cooked for the prisoners. The jail is located for historical preservation purposes on the grounds of the Bent County courthouse in Las Animas.
Curtis played quarterback for his high school football team.
Curtis was a singer before moving into acting[3] and combined both careers once he entered films, performing with the popular Sons of the Pioneers from 1949 to 1953 as well as singing with the Tommy Dorsey band. Curtis replaced Frank Sinatra as vocalist for the Dorsey band.
Death
Curtis died in his sleep of natural causes in Fresno, California. He was cremated, and his ashes were scattered in the Colorado flatlands.

I listen to all sorts of rock: from Coldplay to Slipknot, but I don't go into death metal. I'll admit one of those mainstream people, so I will listen to some popular rap, country, and electronic.

Man I love Slipknot, one of the best bands around IMO, seen them live twice in LA, I know the whole horror and scary masks thing puts people off, but it's just theatre ffs, and at least they dont take themselves too seriously like a lot of hard rock bands do, and they totally rock out just amazingly, good, another huge Slipknot fan around here is a relief to me LOL

To me, Slipknot's music is above average, but it's their performance and theme that I love. The horror theme is so intriguing that even if I don't find a song very pleasing, at least I'll always be entertained by the video. That is, if I manage to find the first song that isn't pleasing. I've also been fascinated by Corey Taylor's ability to alternate between metal and soft vocals. "Talented" just simply isn't enough to describe him.

Yeah, I'm a horror movie fan so they were always going to be a big band for me as they basically just make lots of little horror movies with each video.

Indeed. They aren't the only horror themed band out there, but they certainly have to be one of the most entertaining.

Anyone who loves music just spare 4 minutes of your life here, because a new superstar is born. There's a girl on American Idol called Jessica Sanchez and I never in my life heard a kid of just 16 years old sing like this, she's actually from San Diego, she's almost too talented to be normal, I mean she is going to be huge whether she wins Idol or not, an unbelieveable voice

For dancing I prefer ska, for driving hard rock, for relaxing classical and I'm never in the mood for the vast majority of pop.

The vast majority of pop isn't music anyway, it's just heavy breathing. It's sad how far pop music has fallen. The Beatles were a pop band back in their day. Today, it's Justin Bieber. Big fall off there.
