Chuck Greenberg ousted as Rangers partner!

Well that didn't take long.

Chuck Greenberg, who only seven months ago helped rescue the Texas Rangers out of bankruptcy court, is out as team CEO and managing partner.

The American League club released a statement in which Greenberg indicated that he, team president Nolan Ryan and the co-chairmen of the board "have somewhat different styles" and weren't able to solve their differences.

Meantime, Ryan becomes CEO and oversee all baseball and business operations for the defending AL pennant winners. Ryan will report directly to the board of directors.

Man you would think Greenberg would have gotten a little more love here!

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels, who led his team through bankruptcy hearing a year ago, says that CEO Chuck Greenberg's resignation will barely register a blip on their radar, with Nolan Ryan inheriting the new duties.

"It shouldn't have an impact," Daniels told a group of reporters at their spring-training complex. "It's not going to change how we operate. We have an organizational structure and a budget. All of that remains the same.

Ouch!

I take it that management isn't based on performance at the top level with new ownership. Sorta falls into the " it's not what you know, it's who you know" category.

"Greenberg's initial financial stake in the club less was than $5 million, but he was expected to at least quadruple his investment."....There you go.

Ouch is right, you'd think everyone would be a little less harsh after he got them out of bankruptcy...

Chuck Greenberg won't be missed as the two big money men are still here and Nolan Ryan as CEO will be just fine.

He may not be missed but he did help get the team through the mess they were in and you would think someone would maybe ease his dismissal with less harsh words. "Here's the door, thanks for all you did, we wish you luck, diverging mindsets!" Not "Here's the door, ignore the knife in the back!"

I think the Rangers are going to and aren't going to miss him. They might miss the public image he brought, but they won't miss the baseball mind, or lack thereof, he had. With Nolan at the helm this team is a lot better, look at what he's done just since the last few years.

Nolan Ryan is now the Rangers controlling owner!

Good for the Rangers. It is nice to see a franchise without a lot of success look to be in a good position for years to come. The organization seems to be in good shape after the mess that Hicks left, and it is nice to see a team that isn't amongst the usual suspects in the mix for the World Series. Gives me a little hope that I can be saying the same thing about my club's new ownership.
