I totally collect but live where there is NO baseball card access.

I buy individuals off of ebay now. I have binders full of cards on my shelf.

I'm a collector now thanks to you... I'll only be collecting for certain players though so maybe I'll just buy select packs and try trading for the players I actually like.

Rick/Nicole....I highly highly recommend http://www.dacardworld.com

Biggest Card Dealership every, you can get great prices on hobby boxes/packs/etc....That's the place to buy baseball cards/boxes.

It's a great time to buy, but will the cards ever be as valuable like they used to?
It's good to collect older cards with players that are established and won't get into trouble.
By "trouble" I mean a scandal of various sorts, like in the case of baseball, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens...
Football players like OJ Simpson, Lawrence Taylor, will cause most collectors to pull their hair out.
Although I bet some Michael Vick fans will be happy once again.
In my case I collected for many years and some cards that were once valuable, I should have sold, because many of those have dwindled down to nothing. I like the older cards from the 70s or earliers.

I stopped collecting for resale value 15 years ago. I collect for the pure enjoyment of it. I don't plan on reselling my collection. It's a pure hobby for me. My kids can burn them, sell them, whatever.

I enjoy sitting on my floor and flipping through my binders even now.

Cards are very valuable still. I have over 15-20 base cards worth $8-$15 dollars alone. There are multiple cards that are numbered worth hundreds and thousands.

Back in 1987, you could hold up any of the Topps baseball cards for that year, cover the name and I could tell you who the player was. Now? not so much, cept the really popular players :ouch:

I'm pretty sure I could have done that in 1963 myself (thought there were fewer players in MLB at that time)

I colected cards as a kid. As an adult I did some card collecting but got more into sports memorabilia. I have a lot of the Salada tea coins and even more coins from Junket pudding. The metal ones are my favorite.

Another item I collect is baseball HOF'ers on the cover of non-sport magazines, such as Stan Musial on the cover of Time magazine from (I think) 1949.

I think my favorite item is a picture of Ted Williams on the mound the one time he pitched in the majors. Stamps, bats, lots of stuff that is packed up now as I'm trying to sell my house and move back to Massachusetts.

I have cartons upon cartons of old sports magazines (Sport magazine, Sports Illustrated, Baseball Digest, etc.).

I like your niche of collecting Mick...Old Sports magazines are super cool to look out. Once you get back to Massachusetts you should do some scans of those magazines you have. Would love to look at them.

I'll see what I can do. I still locate different sorts of things here and there. Last year I found some 8mm films of college football games back when there were no face masks. I have some boxes of magazines that haven't been opened in almost 20 years.
