SS Stephen Drew was signed to a two-year, $13.75 million contract Tuesday. The deal includes a mutual option for a third year at a salary of $10 million.
Joe Saunders was signed to a one-year, $5.5 million contract.

According to MLB.com, the Tigers and the Diamondbacks are close in agreeing about a deal involving Armando Galarraga. The Tigers would get minor league pitcher Kevin Eichhorn and another minor league player in return. On top of that, the D-Backs would take the major part of the 2.3 million dollar contract.
They already have a rotation with Joe Saunders, Daniel Hudson, Ian Kennedy, Barry Enright and Zach Duke, plus they will give Aaron Heilman a chance to compete for a spot in the rotation. Sure they will let Galarraga do the same.
I still think that Galarraga has some potention, so I don't think this will be a bad move.

Mike Hampton retires after 16-year career
PHOENIX (AP)—Veteran left-hander Mike Hampton(notes) retired Saturday, ending a 16-year big league career after giving up on a bid to earn a roster spot with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“I just knew it was time,” the 38-year-old Hampton said in a statement. “The fire is there and the passion will always be there, but physically it was just time to shut it down.”
The oft-injured Hampton was 148-115 with a 4.06 ERA in 419 games, including 355 starts.
He began his career with Seattle in 1993 and played for the Houston Astros, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves and Diamondbacks.
He led the National League with 22 wins in 1999 while with Houston. But the two-time All-Star had just 10 wins in the past five seasons.
Hampton had elbow surgery in 2005 and 2007, and rotator cuff surgery in 2009. He signed a minor-league contract with Arizona last August.

Real competitive pitcher who waited to long to do this IMO. Started out great with the Rockies and then went into a year and a half funk for them. He had one good year with the Braves after the Rockies but that was it.
About time for sure. Gotta hand it to him, though. I don't believe he pitched a single game for the Braves in 2006 or 2007....yet, during that two year period, he was paid over 29 Million.-BH

Yeah, thank goodness for that 3 team deal the Rockies done with the Braves and Marlins.
Hampton went a slightly disappointing 14-13 with a 5.12 ERA in 2001, his pitching clearly affected by Coors Field. Like his predecessor Darryl Kile, Hampton succumbed to control problems. The next season was even more of a disaster for the highly-paid Hampton, as he went 7-15 with his ERA climbing to 6.15. The only positive from Hampton's two Colorado years was his hitting (ten home runs and .300+ batting average over two seasons).
In December 2000, the Colorado Rockies signed Neagle and fellow left-hander Mike Hampton to expensive contracts. Neagle's contract was for five years and $51 million, and his 17-19 record and 5.31 ERA over the 2001 and 2002 seasons spelled disaster for the Rockies. Due to injuries, Neagle only started seven games in 2003. He went 2-4 with a 7.90 ERA, pitching what has proven to be his last Major League game on July 20, 2003.
Hampton signed for 121mil but the Rockies saved 40mil in the long run with that 3 team trade involving the Braves and Marlins. Hampton was a competitor that lost confidence and control but his 21 wins cost the Rockies 3.85mil a win.
81mil divided by 21=3.85mil
Neagle just became a lost soul who wound up with a hooker on West Colfax right after his wife had given birth to a set of twins. His 19 victories cost the Rockies 2.68mil a win.
51 divided by 19= 2.68mil
For the 40 combined wins the Rockies paid an combined average of 3.3mil a win.
132 divided by 40= 3.3mil

Hampton should have given the Braves back some of that money.
Braves? Didn't you see my post about the Rockies? 81mil for 2 years and 21 wins. And no, he shouldn't give any of the money back. Players are just a stock that an owner buys and they make a plenty on players during their first 6 years in MLB especially the first two years that are just like the old days of the reserve clause.

I just can't stand how these multi millionaires take money and do absolutely nothing for it.
It's not like Hampton didn't WANT to pitch. Injuries happen - that's why owners take out big insurance policies. The owners are only risking $$ - the players are risking their careers.

Hey at least he got 21 wins there. I understand what you are saying, but I just can't stand how these multi millionaires take money and do absolutely nothing for it.
Also to go along with what Mex86 said, all the multi millionaire owners do is sign players to the dotted line. Why should they get any money back? Any stock has a risk as the owners know and the owners sure don't reimburse a rookie who brings in millions while making league minimum.

Hear, hear.
Nor do the owners ever really absorb any losses -- they have countless ways of writing them off.

Say one thing about Hampton, he was a all around player, good speed, bat and glove. He did win a silver slugger here in Colorado but that isn't exactly what the Rockies needed.:)
I was concerned with Hamptons size from the get go when the Rockies signed him.

The Arizona Diamondbacks hired Jerry Krause of Chicago Bulls fame as a special assistant to the senior vice president, scouting & player development. Despite being known for his involvement with the Bulls, Krause spent 21 of his 37 years scouting baseball players, most recently for the Chicago White Sox in 2010.
Krause will evaluate players on all levels, including Major and minor league players, amateur players for the First-Year Player Draft and international players throughout the world.

Arizona selected the contract of 30-year-old infielder Josh Wilson from triple-A Reno. He was batting .351 with a home run and 12 RBIs in 16 games with the Aces. It's his second stint with Arizona. He played 11 games with the Diamondbacks in 2009.

According to Twitter and a story on MLBTR, Galarraga has been designated for assignment. Galarraga has had plenty of struggles this season and it only seems to be getting worse. The DFA comes one day after he got defeated by the Padres. He has posted a 5.91 ERA and allowed a league leading 13 home runs in 2011. This move also allows the team to activate utility man Wiliie Bloomquist off the DL.
Noe I don't expect any team to jump in there to claim him, I do see a team possibly waiting until AZ releases him and may e giving him a spot starter role or a long reliever spot.

Makes me think that the Tigers seen something in giving up on Armando Gallaraga, after his good rookie season of 2008, when he was 13-7, with a 3.73 ERA. His only season where his ERA was under league average. IMO, he is still young enough at 29, he can make the proper adjustments and should catch on with another team.

Armando Galarraga^^^
I would like to give credit of a perfect game to Galarraga but 'Old Sweater Reference' doesn't get much world wide recognition. I believe out of the 20 perfect games, that there were a few blown calls, that worked in favor of the pitcher and I wouldn't want to take those away, if a ump grew the balls to say so like Joyce did.

^^^ Here is a list of all the MLB perfect games, plus others like the Nippon league. I have found out it is a lot easier to use 'google' in reference to BR, then use their menu, that confuses me, for info like this.

I would agree. I see him going to the Bronx Bombers. A sure tailor made move for the Yankees. I'm still a fan of this guy no matter how much he continues to struggle. The way he handled losing his perfect game to a blown call and how he responded the next day was simply the classiest thing I have seen a baseball player do in my time as a baseball fan.

Well the Yankees pitching is not strong and they have taken a lot of chances this year. I can see them thinking a fresh start can do them both some good. Look for this to happen.

I'll still go Mark Buerhle with that terrible velocity, inability to miss bats.
yeah, but his no-no the following year proved that he is at least a legit talented MLB pitcher. When i said luckiest, i guess i meant worst pitcher (stuff-wise) lucky enough to luck their way into a perfect game

Mark Buerhle might be a good pitcher, but I still think he's a donkey butt. I'll never forget when he said the Rangers were stealing signs from him when he got lit up one time in Arlington.
